Elphinstone provides internships for undergraduate students over the summer university break (December to February) in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Project Management.

Your time with us will see you using your skills in real-life situations, and give you access to experts in your field.

We also offer work experience to secondary school students from February through to November, with placements available in Fabrication, Assembly, Logistics and Warehousing, and Finance and Administration.

Elphinstone will provide you with a better understanding of our industry and our business, and help you choose your future career.

For Students and Parents

If interested in Work Experience please speak with your school coordinator. We will always endeavour to accommodate the selected dates (ensuring at least 1-month notice is given), but unfortunately, this may not be possible in some instances. We will work with your school on an alternative if this can be arranged.

Prior to starting you will need to complete (along with your parents and your school) any relevant paperwork and the online learning modules that will be sent to the email address you provide.

For Schools

  • Adequate timeframe - Elphinstone requires a minimum of 1 month's notice for all Work Experience (Work Placement) requests. Noting there is no guarantee on dates but we will definitely try and work a solution if the student's dates are unavailable.
  • Paperwork - All paperwork must be signed by the student, parents & the school before placement can be confirmed.
  • Insurance - To be placed in the Elphinstone Work Experience Program, students must be covered by the school's liability insurance. All schools are required to provide evidence of adequate insurance coverage before placement can be undertaken.

We have an opportunity for an individual to join our team as our Regional Sales and Support Manager for WA, SA and Eurasia regions to support our dealer network and generate sales with new and existing customers.

About the Role

Elphinstone Pty Ltd is searching for an experienced Sales and Support Manager to join our high-performance sales team remotely. As the successful candidate, you will provide technical sales expertise to support our dealer network and customers. The priority focus will be to penetrate and generate sales of our underground hard rock support vehicles in Western Australia (WA) and South Australia (SA). Subsequently, the role will also focus on sales and support in the Eurasia region.

Key duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist to develop and be responsible for implementing sales strategies for the WA, SA and Eurasia regions
  • Work closely with our dealer network to understand their business and prepare and submit product quotations
  • Participate in industry networking functions obtaining referrals and leading generations
  • Retain a thorough technical understanding of the Company's products and services
  • .Maintain the Company's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system with accurate and up-to-date data for forecasting, business planning and reporting
  • Remain abreast of industry and market trends and collect the Voice of the Customer (VOC) for feedback
  • Frequent travel is a requirement of the position both domestically and internationally
  • The role is based in Perth under remote / working from home office requirements
  • Tools of trade will be supplied, including Company vehicles and office equipment.

About the Role

As a Mobile Plant Technician / Diesel Fitter / Diesel Mechanic, you will be an integral part of a small team undertaking various daily tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of our product development department. Your work will be crucial in the development of new product prototypes and improvement features, as we work closely with our in-house engineering team.

As a Mobile Plant Technician / Diesel Fitter / Diesel Mechanic, you can expect your day-to-day tasks to include but are not limited to:

  • Proofing engineering documentation
  • Building and testing new product developments
  • Fault finding, troubleshooting & problem-solving
  • Undertake a variety of workshop tasks to assist the team in meeting targets

About You

Due to team growth, we are seeking a Resource Lead to join our Defence team based at Wynyard, Tasmania.

About the Role

As the Resource Lead, you will plan, procure, and manage logistics strategies and warehousing for Defence products. You will also build and maintain strong, positive working relationships with our supply chain to ensure the efficient and cost-effective flow of materials, from raw steel to finished fabricated structures.

As the resource Lead, you can expect your day-to-day tasks to include but not limited to:

  • Leading the Defence resource team and developing supply chain processes.
  • Plan, procure and maintain stock levels of quality parts
  • Identify, audit and onboard new and existing supply chain partners
  • Monitor and maintain the M1 (ERP) database and ensure data accuracy

About You

About Our Teams
The Fabrication teams are a core part of our business in both our Defence and Yellow Iron Departments. The Fabrication teams play a pivotal role in the growth and development of our business through successful projects. Our Welder / Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator reports to the Fabrication Team Leaders and will be part of a supportive and inclusive culture.

About the Roles
Defence Team:
As a Welder / Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator working within the Elphinstone Defence team, you will be primarily responsible for carrying out fabrication, welding, and inspection tasks on the AS9 and AS10 structures, components, and sub-assemblies following our quality and safety requirements. You will also be upskilled in this role to be qualified in and welding of armoured steel. This role will be based at our Defence manufacturing facility in Wynyard Tasmania, Australia.

Yellow Iron Team: As a Welder / Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator working within the Elphinstone Yellow Iron team, you will be primarily responsible for carrying out fabrication and welding tasks on our underground mining support vehicles. These are new product builds with a clean working environment. Attention to detail and pride in your workmanship will be on display. This role will be based at our Ormsby Street manufacturing facility in Wivenhoe / Burnie Tasmania, Australia.

As a Welder / Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator, you can expect your day-to-day tasks to include but not limited to:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings of welded assemblies to determine specifications, tolerances and required materials to carry out the welding task.
  • Comply with the relevant Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) before, during and after welding for operating parameters and temperatures, weld seam preparation, root gouging, welding sequence, use and handling of filler metals, visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing.
  • Perform visual examinations of completed welds for compliance before being examined by the Welding Inspector within the quality team.
  • Set up, operate and maintain various types of welding equipment and tools (e.g., welding torch, grinder, plasma gouger, overhead hoist, measuring tools) safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct welding operations to manufacture armour steel welded assemblies according to the relevant drawings, standards, quality and safety requirements of the Defence team.

  • Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent welder’s trade qualifications or extensive production welding experience.
  • Experience in welding to a Welding Procedure Specification.
  • Experience with the use of MIG and TIG welding and plasma gouging.
  • Experience in welding High Hardness Steels (may be advantageous)
  • Strong understanding of complete welding and fabrication of major assemblies (may be advantageous)
  • Ability to read and understand specifications, technical drawings, work instructions and procedures of structural components and entire vehicles.
  • Overhead crane operation. (Desirable. Training will be provided).
  • Basic computer skills. (Desirable. Training will be provided).

About the Role

Elphinstone Pty Ltd is seeking an Operations Supervisor to join our well-established team. As the Electrical Operations Supervisor, you will lead, coach, and develop personnel involved in harness manufacture to ensure each contributes effectively to the team's achievement of department goals and objectives.

As the Electrical Operations Supervisor, you can expect your day-to-day tasks to include but not limited to:

  • Manage the allocation of work to personnel and develop shift rosters with the manager to ensure delivery targets exceed customer expectations.
  • Develop and maintain systems to control the build process. e.g. Build procedures
  • Review the schedule daily and liaise with electrical planners to confirm daily delivery requirements.
  • Liaise with Leading Hands daily to ensure the broader team understands and can meet the required delivery schedule.
  • Communicate any potential roadblocks that affect deliveries.

We are looking for a Warehouse & Logistics Supervisor to oversee our Yellow Iron Warehousing operations in South Burnie.

About the Role

Elphinstone Pty Ltd is searching for a Warehouse & Logistics Supervisor to join our growing team. The role has become vacant due to internal movements. As part of the Elphinstone Warehousing team, you will oversee the general operations of the warehouse and its staff. You will assist the team in successfully meeting safety requirements and quality levels and efficiently and effectively receiving and dispatching stock.

As the Warehouse & Logistics Supervisor, you can expect your day-to-day tasks to include but not limited to:

  • Set daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicate them to employees
  • Identify and assess potential issues that can affect deliveries.
  • Review the timeliness of scheduled deliveries.
  • Track inventory levels
  • Order new supplies promptly
  • Constantly work to improve processes
  • Make suggestions for productivity improvements
  • Optimize employee workflow

About You

You will have a keen eye for attention to detail and quality. You can develop and maintain strong positive customer relationships (internal & external). You will be able to adapt to changing work priorities and locations whilst remaining calm and organised. You will display high motivation and drive and use your initiative to ensure smooth operations. You should also be able to optimise day-to-day activities while minimising the costs.

The experience and skillset suited to this role may include:

  • Proven experience as a Warehousing & Logistics Supervisor or similar role
  • Advanced skills in MS Office
  • Organisational and leadership abilities
  • Well Developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven approach
  • Problem-solving skills
