Elphinstone is seeking to employ Lead Mechanical Design Engineers, Mechanical Designers / Engineers to work with its passionate and expanding team of professionals as we evolve and expand our product range.
Our expanding product range includes, but is not limited to, surface and underground mining vehicles & future products which include low emission diesel combustion engines, Diesel Hybrid Powertrains & Battery Electric Powertrains.
About the roles
The roles will report to the appropriate Dept Manager and will be working across the entire Elphinstone product range.
The responsibilities and key tasks will include:
- Engineering design, drafting, documentation of new and existing product details using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD as required under the direction of a Lead Project Engineer.
- Research, design, evaluate and analyse products, equipment, systems and processes to meet functional requirements via applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Manage aspects of product design projects when assigned.
- Complete engineering work to the required standards of accuracy and methodology as defined by Elphinstone protocols and client requirements as applicable. The design and development process should adhere to the Elphinstone product development procedure, Elphinstone design guidelines, Elphinstone HES specifications, recognised industry standards, design guides and practice notes and appropriate statutory regulations and codes of practice.
- Conduct and/or participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, codes, and other artefacts as required.
- Recommend any engineering improvements to new and existing products when identified.
- Work in conjunction with the design, manufacturing, product support and sales teams to incorporate changes, updates and suggestions to machines and manufacturing processes to improve both product and process safety, performance, reliability, quality and cost as applicable.
- Creation and maintenance of engineering data, including life cycle data, BOM and product structure etc. when required.

Preferably, you will have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or similar, as appropriate for the position.
- Proficient with the use of an industry standard, 3D Mechanical CAD software program, experience with FEA & CAD data management tools will be well regarded.
- Advanced technical knowledge, attention to detail, troubleshooting and methodical problem-solving skills.
- Advanced general computer literacy, particularly MS Office Suite, notably Advanced Excel
- Advanced mechanical drafting ability essential.
- Advanced mechanical aptitude and knowledge.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.

- Minimum 2 years engineering design experience with a proven track record, preferably in the heavy engineering industry.
- Heavy machinery industry / mobile plant experience desirable.
