Elphinstone unveils first of 100 new MTT buses

Metro Tasmania’s first new bus rolls off the production line at Elphinstone’s Southern Prospect plant. The first of Metro Tasmania’s 100 new buses rolled out for its first showing on Thursday at Elphinstone’s Southern Prospect plant near Wynyard. The sleek vehicle, kitted out in Metro livery and surrounded by the engineers, was welcomed by Infrastructure Minister Jeremy Rockliff.

Elphinstone, Orica’s explosive partnership delivers first units

Elphinstone is creating North-West jobs and “having a blast” at the same time. The advanced manufacturer has teamed with explosives giant Orica Limited to design and build mobile units to deliver bulk explosives to mine sites.
The Bulkmaster 7 units are being built at Wynyard and sell for about $1.2 million. Elphinstone managing director Kelly Elphinstone said the company had 45 direct jobs associated with the product at this stage and was looking to almost double that in six to 12 months if production increased.

The Elphinstone name returns to the Global Underground Mining Industry

We are pleased to announce the return of the Elphinstone name to the Global Underground Mining Industry. A recent agreement between Elphinstone and Caterpillar has paved the way for Elphinstone to re-establish their world-renowned brand and commence manufacture of specialised underground mining support vehicles from their original home base of Burnie, Tasmania.

While a return to underground mining had been contemplated by Elphinstone, the move was hastened by Caterpillar’s 2015 announcement they would complete the relocation of their Burnie based manufacturing operations to Rayong, Thailand by first quarter end, 2016.

Solid Energy’s Stockton opencast coalmine is home to a whole fleet of super-sized boys’ toys… with few more impressive than the new Haulmax 3900 dumptrucks. The Stockton mine’s main haul road, the “2 to 5,” drops 400 metres along its 7.5km length. The Haulmax 3900’s rear brake swept area of over 10 square metres keeps 130 tonnes all up well under control on the downhill run.
